Thanks to my Aunt Linda and our good friend Jacqueline, we were able to assemble and stuff all of our invitations over the weekend.  Jeremy and I added the stamps and mailed them today.

We were both very excited to see the official invitation go out in the mail. With just over 100 days to go before the big day, it seems like it will be here before we know it!

Invites contain RSVP cards and return envelopes, but our guests have a choice.  They can either mail the card back to us or reply online through our website. We look forward to hearing from you and look forward to having you join us on June 3rd.

The little people in our wedding party...

We were very excited today to be able to officially ask our flower girls, Payten and Rylee, to be part of our wedding.  We made up gift bags with fun activities and special cards.  Their reaction and excitement was contagious. We can't wait to see them in their pretty dresses on our special day.

In April, we asked Jeremy's two young nephews, Jack and Joshua to be our ring bearers. We couldn't do it in person, as they live in another city, but we made up special gifts for both and sent them along.  We hear the little ducks were a hit. We are just as excited to see them in their little outfits and are very thankful that they will be part of our special day.

Thankful for all the great women in my life

I'm lucky to have many wonderful women in my life. From family to friends, I've always had someone to talk to, to give me advice, to lend a hand, and to share in life's many adventures.

When Jeremy and I were choosing our bridal party, I knew that I was lucky enough to have many friends that I could ask to stand by my side. It was actually an overwhelming decision! But the more I thought about it, the more the decision became easy.  I love to travel and I'm fortunate enough to have taken some great trips over the years. On a few of these trips, I've had the pleasure of having a good friend travel with me and they were some of my favourite adventures.

When you travel, you want to pick people to travel with who you know you will enjoy spending a lot of time with. Over the past two decades, I've gotten to enjoy adventures with three great friends, Sarah, Stephanie and Courtney. All wonderful women who I treasure as fabulous friends.

From three different trips with Courtney to watch baseball in New York, Boston and Cape Cod, to the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and studying French in Québec City with Stephanie, to celebrating a recent milestone birthday with Sarah in New York, I've made wonderful memories with these ladies that I will always treasure.

When planning a wedding, you have countless decisions you need to make. What everyone is going to wear is a big one. You can order online, shop the limited selection in the Regina or travel somewhere else and make it an adventure. We decided to do the later and ventured to Winnipeg to check-out David's Bridal.

So in August, my mom, Angela, joined Sarah, Stephanie, and I as we all traveled together to Winnipeg to shop for dresses. It turned into the ultimate girls' weekend!

Jeremy's mom, Marlene, and his sister, Gail, were the hostesses with the mostest! They organized our sleeping arrangements, made sure we were well fed and entertained all weekend.  We had an amazing time!
Unfortunately, Courtney could not travel with us as she had family commitments at home. Luckily she was able to join us in spirit (aka "Paper Courtney") during some of our adventures and was able to FaceTime with us during our appointment at David's Bridal.

Our adventure was successful as everyone, bridesmaids and both mothers, found dresses and were all very happy with our selections.  One more item to check off the to-do list! If you are wondering what they ended up selecting, then you will just have to wait a few more months and see them at the wedding.  Everyone will look beautiful.

Thanks to everyone for another adventure I will never forget!

"Be Kind To One Another"

This summer, we decided to spend our vacation time enjoying our yard and home and had a "staycation".  We crossed many chores off of our to-do list that we had been meaning to complete since moving in a year ago. It was a great feeling to organize our space and tidy-up our yard. Sometimes the only thing we really need is a few hours just to relax at home and read a good book.

We also got to spend some of our time enjoying a few restaurants around Regina.  One place we decided to visit on our last day of vacation was Sprout's Café on Victoria Avenue.  We have hired Sprout to be our caterers for our wedding and decided it was a great opportunity to sample some of their cuisine since they are only open for breakfast and lunch during the week.

It was so wonderful to walk into Sprout and see this large poster prominently displayed with Ellen Degeneres' sign-off line "Be kind to one another".  I felt it was kind of fitting given our wedding wish is for our guests to perform an act of kindness in lieu of giving us a traditional wedding gift.  Not only did we pick a great caterer with tasty food, we picked a really kind and generous local business to be part of our special day.

If you are in Regina during the week, please visit the Sprout Cafe on Victoria Avenue for breakfast or lunch. You won't be disappointed!

Celebrating our anniversary with a photo shoot

Every year, on the same day in June, we return to Atlantis Coffee Shop to celebrate the anniversary of our first date.

June 3rd has become a special day in our relationship. As described in Our Story, our first date was a cup of coffee and a stroll through the Farmer's Market. What we thought would be a casual conversation that would maybe take an hour, ended up lasting many hours.
We thought it was very fitting, since we had decided to organize our wedding in 2017 on the fifth anniversary of our first date, to have our engagement photos taken to celebrate our fourth.

Our fabulous photographer, Jamie from JLW Photography spent many hours photographing us in some of our favourite locations around downtown Regina. From capturing us drinking coffee in Atlantis to taking photos on a bench in Victoria Park, we now have many photos documenting these special places. This is something we will always treasure!

We are also planning a French vintage theme for our wedding and tried to incorporate a few touches into our photo session to make our theme start to come alive. From the little model Eiffel Tower, to a French picnic with wine, brie and grapes to an old book and an umbrella, it was a lot of fun to gather some props for the shoot.

As a bride who is sad that some very important family members are no longer with us and will be dearly missed on our wedding day, I wanted to pay tribute some of the people that have played a special role in our lives. My paternal grandparents' have left us with some fabulous old photos. In particular, the honeymoon photos they took inspired some of our shoot. I managed to find an old vintage suitcase that was similar to the one that they took on their first trip as a married couple in May 1947. The suitcase shows up in many of the photos and hints to a different time. Some of the family's favourite photos from their honeymoon were of the couple hitchhiking to Regina from Carnduff.  Although we took no specific hitchhiking photos during our shoot, the photos taken near the old STC bus depot and in front of the Balfour apartment building speak to that post-World War Two era.

We have used a lot of the beautiful photos our photographer took during this shoot on our website and in our wedding stationary. We hope you enjoy them as you read our story and are checking out our other wedding related information. We feel that they definitely captured our love for one and other as well as the true happiness we have been blessed to find that third day of June back in 2012.

The inspiration for Our Wedding Wish

1/5/2016

One of the first things Joanna noticed when she started dating Jeremy was how thoughtful and generous he always seemed to be. It wasn't just the things that he would do for her, but for everyone else too. He always seemed to be thinking of the little things that he could do to make the people in his life smile... a surprise Slurpee for his sister who was stuck at work on a hot summer day; new books for his dad when in the hospital; a meal drop-off and a hug for Joanna's mom when she was having a tough day; a beer and chat with a friend who just needed someone to listen; a special treat for the dogs because what dog doesn't like treats?

It wasn't because she herself didn't do thoughtful things for others too, there are lots of other people in her life that do that too. What stood out to her was the fact that it seemed to come so naturally for him. It was just who he is and what he does. He brought out the best in her and made her realize how lucky she was to have such a kind and thoughtful person in her life. Her family and friends have always been very important to her and to find someone else who cared as much as she did for others was truly a gift. She knew she was in love.

On November 13, 2015, the day of the Paris attacks and other world events, it was hard not to feel that there is just too much hate in the world. Home alone while Jeremy was out at his weekly game night, Joanna spent her time watching the news and reading her Twitter feed, trying to learn more about the events in Paris. The city she had always dreamed of visiting since she was a little girl first learning French was under attack and there was nothing she could do about it. People shared their thoughts and prayers for the people of Paris on social media because they too could do nothing more than express how they felt. During the height of the media coverage, you didn't even know that more tragic events had taken place in other parts of the world too, but all anyone seemed to care about was Paris.

Needing a distraction from the tragic events of the day before going to sleep, Joanna turned off the news and tried searching out a happier story to read. She came across an Upworthy story of a bride named Leigh Clark who believes in making the world a better place through acts of kindness. Ironically, this story was published on the same day as the Paris attacks. A story about love and kindness on a day when it seemed like there was only fear and hate in the world? How perfect! The story went on to explain that, as her wedding approached, Leigh knew "asking guests to do good deeds would be an amazing way to celebrate love — and not just between her husband and herself, but the world."

After reading Leigh's story, Joanna was inspired. Although they had no plans for a wedding at the time, she and Jeremy had talked about getting married "one day." They knew that day would come soon, they just hadn't set a date and made it official. Leigh's story really represented Joanna and Jeremy's values. The story made her think. They were lucky people, they were well educated, had bought their dream home, had good jobs and really had everything they needed. Acts of kindness... What a great way to celebrate their love for each other when they eventually got married! When she shared her idea with Jeremy, he agreed that it was something he wanted to do too.

In February 2016, when they officially decided to get engaged and started making wedding plans, one of the first decisions they made was to make their Wedding Wish official. They created this website to help share their wish with their family and friends. It is not like a gift registry exists for acts of kindness! Their wish would need a bit of an explanation to be understood.

Although the couple would love to have everyone at their wedding, they decided a smaller event was more their style. Even if you aren't attending in person, they are hoping you might be a little bit inspired to help make their wedding wish come true. Please consider doing an act of kindness and then sharing it with the bride and groom. Help them to share their love and make their wedding wish come true.

We are getting married!

When we decided to get engaged in February, we realized that it was important to us to be able to tell our parents in person. We decided to wait until our next trip to Winnipeg to tell Joanna's mom and Jeremy's family and then proceeded with making our plans to tell everyone else after that.

After spending Easter weekend sharing our news with our family and then the following week asking our bridal party if they would like to be part of wedding, we shared our announcement with everyone on social media.

We want to thank everyone for all of their well wishes and congratulations that we have been receiving since we shared our big news. We feel truly blessed to have so many wonderful people in our lives. We can't wait to get the wedding planning started. It is going to be a busy year!
